Approximately 577 kindergarten-aged children will attend this year’s Safety City event held at the Putnam County Fairgrounds over three days. Safety City is a miniature city set up for young children to learn the importance of safety.

The Putnam County Task Force and the Putnam County Educational Service Center sponsor this program. The children learn about railroad, pedestrian, water, seatbelt, and bike safety from trained volunteers and area law enforcement professionals. Above, Ottawa Police Officer Shane Vance instructs students on the importance of wearing a seatbelt and some rules of the road for drivers.
