OTTAWA — Allen County Sheriff Sam
Crish has confirmed that former Ottawa Mayor Ken Maag was arrested
Friday for trying to solicit a prostitute for sex. This is Maag's
second arrest for an identical charge. He was arrested in Aug. 2011
for soliciting. At that time Maag was serving as Ottawa Mayor. Maag
resigned as mayor following his arrest in 2011. He also withdrew his
name from the ballot to run for another term as mayor.
Crish said they had been working on a
prostitution sting for some time. Maag was arrested today when one
of the sting's was done.
“We did this one this morning,” he
indicated. “He had made arrangement to come to Lima to meet the
girl,” Crish said. “We were there. He showed up and we ended up
arresting him for soliciting.”
Crish indicated the arrangements
between Maag and the girl were made by telephone.
Maag was booked today and released. He
is scheduled to appear Monday in Allen County Court.
In his letter in 2011 to the village Maag wrote "My
resignation shall be in effect beginning September 13, 2011. I
sincerely apologize for any problems this has caused the village, the
community and especially my family."
