LEIPSIC — The temperature broke 80 degrees on Thursday, just the right kind of sun-and-shorts kind of weather for wine and cheese sampling and shopping. And shop they did, at least the women of Putnam County who attended the second Ladies Night at the Village Hardware in Leipsic.

Parking was limited, especially off the store entrance as a large white tent was erected there. Inside the canvas walls visitors could peruse local boutique vendor booths and register for raffles. Inside the store entrance were hors d’oeuvres, wine-sampling from Putnam County vineyards, more booths and, of course, hardware, paints and other home building and enhancement supplies.
And pink-shirted people were everywhere, not because they really like hot pink but because 10 percent of the store’s proceeds from the entire day went to the Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program.
“We’ve had a great turnout. The Village Hardware’s been very, very good to us,” said Lori Schroeder, CAP auction coordinator.
Jeff Evers, manager of the family-owned business, was pleased with the turnout. “We always have some kind of party every year for the community,” he said. “Last year was the first year we did Ladies Night and it went well. This year we thought we’d take the money from the day and donate 10 percent. I think CAPS is a really good organization and it keeps all the money in Putnam County.”
