— On July 9 there will be a FEMA community meeting to review the
preliminary reports for the FIS (Flood Insurance Study) and the FIRM
(Flood Insurance Rate Map) maps. Representatives from the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency
in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will
host the meeting.
meeting is located at the Putnam County Office of Public Safety,
Glandorf and there will be two sessions. From 2-4 p.m. will be the
local officials meeting and from 4-7 is open to the general public.
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. meeting will provide information specifically for
local elected officials, building and code enforcement and GIS staff.
They will discuss the use of the new data, NFIP (National Flood
Insurance Program) participation and the timetable for the new maps
to become effective.
open house event will be held the same day at the same location from
4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
the open house no presentations will be made. Instead the public will
have a chance to talk one-on-one with a FEMA or ODNR representative
about insurance issues, flood protection standards, regulatory
requirements, state program and flood mitigation techniques.
open house will be of particular interest to those living in or near
areas of special flood hazards, realtors, insurance agents,
developers and representatives of lending institutes.
in the NFIP will require that communities adopt the new flood risk
data into appropriate flood protection regulations by the time the
new FIRM goes into effect.
flood maps are currently on display in the Ottawa Municipal Building
and also available at the Putnam County Commissioners office in the
court house. They are NOT available at the Office of Public Safety.
