The inaugural American Red Cross Annual Eating Contest was was held at Henry's Restaurant on March 27. The three contesants were extremely civilized, as they ate their two pounds of spaghetti and two bread sticks with knives and forks. Brad Schwertner won the contest, cleaning his plate in sixteen minutes and five seconds. Hirzel Canning Company donated the spaghetti sauce. Beckman Jewelers donated a plaque on which each year's winner's name will be engraved. The plaque will hang at Henry's. According to Red Cross Executive Director Michelle Williams, next year's contest will feature a different type of food and representatives from other county groups. The event raised $1,360.
