COLUMBUS GROVE - At Monday nights regular council meeting the Columbus Grove village council members discussed pay increases for village employees.

A few council members expressed concern about some employees receiving a higher increase than they thought should be given. Bob Baxter and Pete Langhals shared their similar concerns about giving increased raises. Both council members wanted it to be known they are not against giving raises, just that they did not think it was necessary for the increases to be as much as proposed Despite their concerns the village council passed all of the salary raises brought to council with a 4-2 vote.

Separately, Mayor Ken Wright let council know that there will be a second planning meeting for the sesquicentennial. Wright expressed that there is still a need for someone to take control of the planning in order to have a celebration. The meeting will be Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the community center.

Other items discussed were the approval of ordinance 2012-10 for weeds, approval for temporary appropriations for 2013 and the approval of the second reading of ordinance 2012-11 waiving residency of fiscal officer.

Council will not have another meeting this month due to the holidays but will meet again Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building.
