CONTINENTAL - Thursday evening was an emotional night for the Continental girls basketball team.

The Pirates were getting ready to host Tinora in a non-league contest at the Don Huber Memorial Gymnasium. As the junior varsity contest was being played, the team received word that the home of starting guard Vanessa Koppenhofer had been destroyed by fire late in the afternoon.
Koppenhofer left the team to be with her family leaving her teammates with a difficult task of facing the Rams without her. Her teammates rallied in her absence and defeated the visiting Rams 56-45 as they used a big second half to put away the Rams.
"It was an emotional win for the Pirates because we played without starting guard Vanessa Koppenhofer," Lady Pirate coach Jaaci Carr said. "The girls decided to play despite not having Vanessa there. They wanted to pick up the victory for their teammate."
Taylor Williamson led the Pirates with 17 points and Leva Weller had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Check back for more details on the fire as they become available.
