COLUMBUS GROVE — A Continental man was the lucky person who caught Big Earl during the 2014 Columbus Grove American Legion fishing derby on Sunday.

I was hoping to catch him,” said Casey Owens as he waited in line to have “Big Earl” weighed. Owens won $1,000 for catching Big Earl. The 5 pound 6 ounce fish was caught within the first hour of Sunday's event. Owens said this is the fourth year he has attended the event.

Over 500 anglers came out for the annual event. There were 230 sponsored fish. During the event 143 of these sponsored fish were caught.
