Continental school board regular meeting

Continental - The regular monthly meeting for the Continental School Board was held at 7:00 p.m. on September 26, 2012 in the administrative office. The meeting was called to order by President Dean Bidlack.
Mr. Brian Gerdeman, Elementary Principal, reported:
Many questions still remain on the Third Grade Guarantee, a new standard requiring third graders to be proficient in reading before advancing to fourth grade.
Third graders will be taking the Ohio Achievement Assessments on October 2.
Fire Prevention Week is October 7-13. Firemen will be bringing the smokehouse on October 17 & 18 to demonstrate how quickly a room can fill with smoke and allow students to practice crawling out to safety. The smoke is created with a fog machine and poses no risk to participants inside the structure.
Red Ribbon Week, a drug-free prevention awareness campaign, will be observed on October 22-26.
Mr. Joel Mengerink, Middle/High School Principal, reported:
OGT Retakes in October - 2 Seniors
Midterm were this past Friday. Notices were mailed home Monday.
iPad Update. iPad 3's will be distributed to students in grades 9-12 during second semester. Teachers are working to implement lessons.
Partial Report Card released today.
Approved advance of $2,970.40 from General Fund (001) to Cafeteria Fund (006).
Approved advance of $10.38 from the General Fund (001) to the Yearbook Fund (200-9682).
Approved decrease of $5,808 in Fund 599 (other Federal Grants).
Approved the annual in-state tuition rate of $3,872.64 for FY 2013.
Approved the Apple 4-year lease of 150 iPad3's from GE Capital Corp for $26.795.67/yr.
Approved the FFA trip to National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 24th-27th, 2012.
Approved the following donations:
$151.64 from the Defiance Society Agricultural Society to the Band Fund
$500.00 from the Van Wert Agricultural Society to the Band Fund
Heard the transportation and Vantage Career Center reports.
Approved Jacquelyn Beckner as volunteer cheer coach.
Accepted the resignation of reserve boys basketball coach Scott Keck.
Approved the following supplemental contracts, pending proper certification and satisfactory FBI/BCI background checks, if applicable for the 2012-2013 school year:
Hannah Davis, Junior High Student Council
Cathy Berry & Kristen Stechschulte, Prom
Tracy Potts,High School Cheerleading Advisor
Lisa Bracken, Color Guard
Chris McClure, JV Boys Basketball Coach
The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be held on October 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the administrative office.
