OTTAWA - The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on State Route 65 north of US Route 224 in the village of Ottawa following a pursuit.
Early Sunday, Ottawa Police Department officers attempted to stop a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis on State Route 65 in the village of Ottawa. A short pursuit ensued, ending with the suspect vehicle, driven by 28 year old Mark Christian of Ottawa, losing control and striking a utility pole and guardrail end. Christian was trapped inside and had to be extricated by mechanical means by Ottawa Fire and EMS, and transported to St. Rita's Medical Center for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Through investigation, it is believed that Mr. Christian was not wearing his seat belt.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
The Lima Post was assisted by The Ottawa Police Department, Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Ottawa Fire and EMS, and Keebler's Towing.
