OTTAWA - Eight people were injured Saturday night after a two cars collided on Road I-7, east of Ohio 65, the Lima Post of the State Highway Patrol reports. The crash happened about 8:45 p.m.
According to the state patrol, Channing Schmitz, 16, Ottawa, was driving east on Road I-7 when his vehicle became airborne while crossing the railroad tracks. The Schmitz vehicle landed on the wrong side of the road and crashed into an oncoming westbound vehicle being driven by Daryl Brooks, 50, Ottawa.
The five juveniles in the Schmitz vehicle and three people from the Brooks vehicle were all taken to local hospitals, the patrol said. The names of the injured and the hospitals they were taken to were not immediately released by the patrol.
The crash remains under investigation and the patrol said charges are pending.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Ottawa Police, fire and rescue and Leipsic and Pandora emergency medical services.
