COLUMBUS GROVE - The first Sunday in August in the Village of Columbus Grove can mean only one thing- it is time for the St. Anthony Summer Festival.
The small town community event draws crowds from all over not only Putnam County but Northwest Ohio. For example, the winner of the grand prize is from Mercer County and the winner of the 5K is from Van Wert County. Melissa Routt traveled to the festival from Celina and went back $15,000 richer. Routt had the option of $20,000 toward a new vehicle from H&K Chevrolet of Continental or $15,000 in cash.
Brendon Mood traveled to Grove for the 5K and traversed the Grove terrain to come away with a victory to beat last year's winner, local boy Jake Graham.
A tradition of the festival is Bingo. This year was no different with many coming out to play and win prizes.
The festival also included a BBQ ribs and chicken dinner as well as many other refreshments.
The two-day event saw duck races, rides, games, bakery wheels, garage sales, country stores, crafts and basketball. Saturday and Sunday masses were also held.
Big winners may have been from surrounding counties, but everyone who attended the festival found themselves on the winning side with great fun and fellowship.
