PANDORA/ALLEN COUNTY — At roughly 8:30 a.m. Friday morning, Putnam
and Allen law enforcement officers apprehended two subjects after an
hours-long manhunt that began last night.
According to a release
from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a resident in the area of the
Puntam/Allen County line caught two subjects — later identified as
Raymond C. Rainer, 33, and Derek L. Leach, 29, both of Wellston, Ohio —
stealing tools from an outbuilding shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday. The
two men fled the scene, but wrecked the vehicle in which they made
their escape, rolling the vehicle on it’s side. Rainer and Leach then
worked their way across farm fields on foot.
Deputies with the
Putnam and Allen County Sheriff’s Offices and officers with the Pandora
and Bluffton Police Departments, as well as a helicopter from the Ohio
State Highway Patrol, tracked the two, permitting officers to ultimately
take both men into custody.
