OTTAWA — On Tuesday, a Miller City woman was transported to St. Rita's Medical Center with multiple serious injuries following a car/pedestrian accident in Ottawa.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Denise Balbaugh, 58, an employee of the Village of Ottawa, was struck by Raymond Orengo, 18, while crossing Oak Street from the village parking lot to the Municipal Building.

According to a witness, a southbound vehicle stopped to permit Balbaugh's crossing. Orengo passed the stopped car, at which time he struck Balbaugh.

The crash remains under investigation with charges pending by the Ottawa Police Department.

Assisting at the scene was the OPD, Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
