PUTNAM COUNTY - "Movember" is annual event to help raise awareness for prostate cancer which involves growing a mustache for the month of November. No Shave November, which stemmed from the event "Movember" is a month long event celebrated in November, men who participate do not shave their facial hair for the entire month of November.
According to the website www.no-shavenovember.org, "the start of this event has been credited to a group of Australian men who, in 1999, began what they called, "Movember," a mix between moustache and November. For the month of Movember men were encouraged to grow out their manliest moustaches they could without shaving until December. As time passed and word spread more and more people joined in the festivities. Soon the event made its way around the world and to America. Somewhere during it's growth in popularity the transformation into "No-Shave November" came about."
In honor of the event three guys from Putnam County have agreed to participate and give a weekly update of their facial hair progress. Starting in November, Ross Guisinger, Ottawa, John Foppe, Kalida and Charlie Warnimont, Glandorf will be holding off on shaving to help raise awareness. Weekly pictures of the progress will be on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/Putnam.County.Sentinel.
