GREENSBURG TWP — Late Monday morning, an accident involving a tractor pulling a soy bean loaded planter and a sedan sent one county resident for medical attention.

According to the initial report, Tim Verhoff, 59, Ottawa, was driving his farm equipment eastbound on State Route 694 just west of the State Route 115 intersection with two vehicles behind him. The first vehicle passed Verhoff without incident. The second vehicle, driven by Father Herman Scherger, 86, Cloverdale, failed to stop and struck the planter, driving it forward into the wheel of the tractor.

While Verhoff was remarkably uninjured, Father Scherger was transported to St. Rita’s Urgent Care Center by Putnam County EMS personnel for unspecified treatment.

Along with PCEMS, members of the Kalida Volunteer Fire Department, Kalida Police Department and deputies with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
