OTTAWA - A Paulding man appeared in Putnam County court Friday morning after an incident Thursday in Continental.

Jeffrey T. Merritte, 43, Paulding, appeared in court to hear the charges against him stemming from an incident Thursday. He was not asked to enter a plea Friday morning as he appeared before County Court Judge Chad Niese. His bond was set at $50,000 as well as a restraining order against the victim. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on August 1 in Putnam County Court.
Merritte was arrested on a felonious assault complaint Thursday according to a report issued by the Continental Police Department.
Merritte attacked his victim with a pool stick and knife before fleeing the scene. Merritte was arrested at his residence in Paulding County without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail. He is to appear in Putnam County Municipal Court Friday morning at 9 a.m.
The victim was transported to St. Rita's Care Center in Glandorf by the Continental EMS where he was treated and released.
