OTTAWA - The rain that fell over the area the past week was good for the areas corn and soybean crops.
But the heavy downpours that accompanied thunderstorms in the area earlier this week forced the Blanchard River to overflow its banks. The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the Blanchard River at Ottawa that expired early Friday evening as the river crested at 23.7 feet. The water level of the Blanchard River had dropped to 23.5 feet at 11 p.m. Friday evening and was falling slowly. The water level is expected to continue to fall throughout the weekend, but the damage to crops in low lying land along the river may not be known for a while.
