OTTAWA - After the high number of water related accidents over the summer, the Putnam County YMCA is offering swim classes. Second graders from Columbus Grove attended a swim class held at YMCA in Ottawa on Monday.

Some of the goals of the program include making the students comfortable in the water, teaching them to float, tread water, proper strokes, learning about life jacket use, accident prevention, and other basic survival skills.

Qualified and patient instructors spent two hours each day helping the children overcome water fears and improve their swimming skills. Through techniques, games, and practice, the second graders will learn how to be safer in and around water.
