LEIPSIC - Roses & Ribbons Floral & Gifts co-owner, Tammy Schroeder, is celebrating 23 years with her flower shop. Just five years ago, Schroeder brought Joann Vennekotter on board as a co-owner."When I started, my forte was country items like wood, block lettering and mason jars, but I know that one really couldn't do without the other so I also did flowers too," said Schroeder. "I do love doing the flowers."
Within the last year or two, the flower shop was unwillingly tested. The building that stood next to Roses & Ribbons began to bend and brake, and eventually started to fall on the sidewalk below.
"The building that stood beside us hurt our business when it began falling down, and when they put the barricades up, our customers were afraid to walk into our store," said Schroeder. "Since the building has come down, we have picked up again, and we are very glad that our wall has been rebuilt."
Roses & Ribbons has quickly approached its busiest season of the year.
"I would say Christmas is our busiest season because it lasts an entire month long. Our second busy season that closely follows Christmas is Mother's Day week, and finally Valentine's Day," Schroeder said. "My favorite part of my job is the challenge of when someone has something in mind that they want, and I can create it to look exactly like what they were picturing in their head. This happens a lot in our wedding, anniversary, sympathy and our everyday orders. We also offer a $4.99 special that changes each week for our customer's convenience."
Not only does Roses & Ribbons do floral and country, they also have gift items, home décor, chocolates from Amish county and unique cards.
Roses & Ribbons employs only one person, but reaches out to friends and family member during busy times throughout the year.
"We try and support our community just as they support us. We make several donations throughout the year including 'Toys for Tots' box at Christmas time," said Schroeder. "We are also proud to say we deliver to all of Putnam County and we are also a part of Teleflora wire service, which allows us to send flowers anywhere."
Roses & Ribbons thanks their customers who have stuck with them through all the tough times.
"Thanks for the support over these many years. If we don't have what you are looking for, let us know. We try our best to please everyone's needs, and we are full service floral. Smaller towns are losing business after business, and we all need local support. We really do appreciate our community."
