KALIDA - Early Friday Ohio EPA agents, Putnam County EMA, ODNR agents, Kalida Fire Department, Kalida village officials and Kalida Police were called to the scene of SR 114 just outside of Kalida between Union Township Cemetery and Kalida Waste Water Treatment Plant for a sewage line that partially ruptured.
The line, which runs under Plum Creek, had a small area that ruptured and discharged entered the waterway. The area was quickly sectioned off and contained, keeping discharge from entering the Ottawa River.
The officials from the village of Kalida were on scene with EPA testing the water and the levels were returned to normal and no wildlife or fish were killed.
The pipe has been temporarily repaired and there is no threat to local drinking water. Crews on scene expected to have everything wrapped up by 5 p.m.
