Sherwood - The Defiance Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle serious injury crash at the intersection of US127 and State Route 249 in Washington Township. The crash occurred todays date at approximately 1053 hours.
A 2000 Chrysler Cirrus driven by Darius Peterson, age 22 of 3122 Evansport Road, Defiance, Ohio, was eastbound on State Route 249 when he failed to yield at a posted stop sign. Mr. Peterson struck a southbound 2003 Ford F-250 pickup, which was driven by Earl D. Polter, age 68 of 06567 Behnfeldt Road, Sherwood, Ohio. Both vehicles came to rest off of the southeast side of the intersection after the impact.
Mr. Peterson and Mr. Polter were transported to Bryan Hospital, while a passenger in the Polter vehicle, Darrin Polter was transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by Promedica Life Flight. Safety belts appeared to have been in use at the time of by both occupants in the Polter vehicle but not in the Peterson vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
