PUTNAM COUNTY - The Putnam County Optimist Club is conducting its annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Drive. "The primary goal of the Toys For Tots campaign is to deliver, though a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them grow into responsible, productive citizens and community leaders".

Last year, toys were distributed to over 730 needy children in Putnam County through the Thrift Store's Christmas For The Needy program. Families in need of toys this Christmas should contact the Putnam County thrift store.

Toys For Tots collection boxes will soon be appearing in local places of business. Only new, unwrapped, unused toys are wanted. Used toys will be discarded. Board games are not needed as we already have plenty of board games (candy land, chutes & ladders, etc.) from previous years. Hats, gloves, boots and other clothing items make great Christmas gifts and can be put in the Toys For Tots boxes.

Anyone interested in helping Toys For Tots as a corporate sponsor or individual sponsor please make checks payable to Toys for Tots and send to PO Box 278, Ottawa OH 45875. All toys and funds collected in Putnam County stay in our community.

The 2013 Toys For Tots drive in Putnam County will end on Tuesday morning, Dec. 10.
