OTTAWA — The Lima Post of the Ohio
State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle fatal
crash that occurred on Thursday, Jan 23 at approximately 4:22 p.m.
The fatal crash occurred on SR 65 near Oakview Drive on the north
side of Ottawa.
A 2006 Jeep Commander, driven by 49
year old Ronald J. Miehls Jr., Ottawa, was northbound on SR65 (Perry
Street) near Oakview Drive, when his vehicle drifted off the right
side of the roadway for an unknown reason. The Jeep struck a traffic
sign, a metal post and a mobile home before coming to final rest
against the mobile home. Seconds later the vehicle burst into flames
and the vehicle burned out of control until the Ottawa Fire
Department arrived on scene and put the fire out.
The driver, Ronald J. Miehls Jr. was
pronounced dead at the scene by Putnam County Coroner Dr. Horstman.
The driver was transported to Love's Funeral Home and will undergo an
autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was
assisted on scene by the ottawa Police Department, Putnam County
Sheriff's Department, Ottawa Fire Department, Ottawa EMS, Putnam
County EMA< Huggins Towing and the Putnam County Coroner.
