MONROE - Douglas L. Ward, 60, of Monroe, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. He was born on April 9, 1953 in Leipsic, to Donald and Frances (Basil) Ward.
He was the owner and operator of the Country Flower Store in Monroe for over 32 years. Doug was active with the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church and was one of their Elders. He also was a member of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, the Monroe Lion's Club, was a Boy Scout and was also very active in sports and the band when he was in Leipsic. He dearly enjoyed the time he spent on the family farm as a child.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Donnie Ball.
He was a loving husband to his wife of 39 years Alice (Buker) Ward; his sisters, Shirlee (Gary) Zirkle and Sharon Taulbee; his brother-in-law, Mike (Leanna) Ball and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Monroe with Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating.
