COLUMBUS GROVE — Ethel L. Kissell, 101, died at 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at The Meadows of Kalida.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1916, in Wapakoneta, to Michael and Margaret (Gibson) Helpling. They both preceded her in death.

On July 18, 1935, she married Allan “Bud” Kissell and he preceded her in death April 11, 1993. They were married 58 years.

Ethel is survived by four sons, Jack (Janice) Kissell, Bob (Shirley) Kissell and Pat Kissell all of Columbus Grove, and Tom (Helen) Kissell of St. Augustine, Florida; three daughters, Judy (Clair “Butch”) Leffler of Lima, Peggy (Milton) Zimmerly and Joy (Phil) Stechschulte both of Columbus Grove; 25 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter and son in-law, Mary Jean (Bob) Kohls; daughter in-law, Sharon Kissell; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; one grandson-in law and one brother, Melvin Helpling.

She was a graduate of Wapakoneta St. Joe’s High School, class of 1934. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Post 9648, Columbus Grove.

Ethel, along with her husband, Bud, owned Kissell Electric for many years. She had also worked at Stewart’s Department Store of Columbus Grove, from which she retired. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, visiting nursing homes and partying with her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Monday, March 6, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Rev. Mark Hoying will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Columbus Grove.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Scripture Service will be at the close of visitation at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
