CONTINENTAL — Forrest “Rex” Gambrel was born September 1, 1922 to David Leslie Gambrel and Sarah Marie (Bell) Gambrel in Continental, OH and died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 in

Columbus, OH.
He honorably served in the US Navy in WWII from 1943-46 in the South Pacific aboard the USS Ticonderoga. He was married January 16, 1954 to Cleopha “Cleo” Wyant in Leipsic, OH. He and his family moved to a farm in Hicksville, OH in 1962.
He retired in 1985 from Uniroyal-Goodrich Company, in Woodburn, IN. He and Cleo moved to Worthington Christian Village, Columbus, OH in 2010.
Rex is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cleo; daughter Pamela (Brad) Halley, of Powell, OH; sons: David (Jeannine) Gambrel, of Lakewood, NY and James (Suzette) Gambrel, of Fayetteville, NC; nine grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 nephews, Vernon and Richard Stemen. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Larabelle Stemen, and grandson Zachary Halley.
Rex was a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, a life-member of Antwerp VFW Post 5087 and the USS Ticonderoga Veterans Association.  He was a former member of Hicksville’s Fraternal Order of the Eagles. 
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. SATURDAY JULY 5, 2014 at the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065 (614)-792-1471 where Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. with The Reverend Matt Morris, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, OH.
