PERRYSBURG - James A. Croy, 86, of Perrysburg, died Dec. 9, 2012 at Kingston of Perrysburg.
He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Ottawa, to Paul and Kathryn (Blymyer) Croy. Jim was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Philippines and Japan. He was a self employed poultry farmer for 20 years and after his first retirement in 1970 was the director of transportation for Maumee City Schools for 18 years, retiring again in 1987. He was a member for over 50 years of the Waterville United Methodist Church and was also a leader with Waterville Pack and Troop 101 of the Boy Scouts of America since 1959. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award by the Boy Scouts in 1993. James and his wife of 65 years, Sally, who survives him, were named as Waterville's Hometown Heroes in 2001.
Besides Sally, Jim is survived by children, Kathryn (Von) Plessner of Bryan, Susan Norton of Edinboro, Pa., James R. (Deb) Croy of Ottawa, and Paul (Julie) Croy of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Bruce, Elizabeth, Eric, Anastasia, Joshua, Jamey, Taylor, Anna and Lily; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Naethan, Ryan, Megan, Jakob, Ella, Amaya, Jacob, Jordan and Jillian; and siblings, Dorothy Michel, Pete (Jean) Croy and Pat (Ed) Ketner.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
Funeral services were held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Waterville United Methodist Church, 102 N. Fifth Street, Waterville, with Pastor Steve Rath officiating. Interment was at Highland Memory Gardens.
Arrangements were handled by Peinert Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Rd., Waterville.
