FT. MYERS, Fla. — James R. Yaufman, 86, of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Aug. 28, 2014, at home.

Jim was born in Ottawa to the late Ernest and Adele Yaufman. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Helen Smith, Bertha Karcher, Merle Yaufman and John Yaufman. His surviving sibling is Julie Ruen and numerous nieces and nephews.

He grew up on a farm, was then employed at the local telephone company while serving in the National Guard and then joined the Army during the Korean Conflict. After service, he was vacationing on the Myakka River in Florida, where he met his bride, Mary Lou. After returning to Ottawa, he was employed by the City Loan and Savings/ Commercial Credit Company, then transferred to Gainseville, Florida, then on to Ft. Worth, Texas. They moved to Ft. Myers, Florida in 1967, and were blessed with six wonderful children, Jennifer Yaufman, Laurie Champion, Kris (Bob) Urbanowicz, Marlisa Cornell, Carina (Jim) Guillard and James R. Yaufman II, and 10 grandchildren.

Jim worked for Prudential Insurance in Ft. Myers for almost 30 years. Their slogan was, “Own a piece of the Rock” , Jim Yaufman was our rock and our foundation. He has always taken great care of his wife and each and every one of his children.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church ,in Ft. Myers, Florida.
