FINDLAY - Jan Walter Sorgenfrei, 70, of Findlay passed away at 8:47 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1942, to the late Hans Ludwig and Mary (Architect) Sorgenfrei in Kenton. Jan first married Betty Miller (they later divorced) surviving him are their three children: daughter, Greta (Dave) Manning of Galena, grandchildren: Abigail and Emily; daughter, Gayle Sorgenfrei, and son, Joseph (Tammy) Sorgenfrei of California, Ky.; grandsons, Trent and Brock. He later married Kristine (Frick) Comer (they divorced and she preceded him in death); a son survives: Ty (Grace Burkholder) Comer of Pandora. On Jan. 27, 2000, Jan married Vicky (Philo) Bailey and she survives along with two sons, Mitchel (Bonnie) Bailey of Weatherfold, Texas and granddaughter, Caylee and Shawn Bailey of Bowling Green.
Jan was a graduate of Mt. Victory High School. He later attended Otterbein for his undergraduate studies and received his Masters in Education from Bowling Green State University. He was an all state basketball player his junior and senior year in high school and also played basketball at Otterbein. Jan started his career as Vice President for Federated. He later opened Painters Creek Antiques in Pandora. He is currently the owner of the Old Barn Auction House which he has operated for the past 25 years. He was an avid collector of Indian Artifacts. Jan was a member of the Archaeological Society of Ohio where he served as past president.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. in Webster Twp. Cemetery, Scotchridge.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association or to the Cincinnati Hospital (for Liver Transplant).
