GLANDORF- John Joseph Verhoff, 79, of Newton, NC, formerly of Glandorf, died 11:31 p.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem, NC. John was born, November 30, 1934, in Glandorf, to the late Aloysius and Veronica (Schmiedebusch) Verhoff. On Dec. 27,1958 he married Joan Bosse, who survives in Newton, NC. 

    He is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth (Dominic) Buccellato of Northville, MI and Maria (Robert) Krupp of Chesapeake Va.; three sisters: Helen (Ed) Luersman and Clara Gerker both of Ottoville, Veronica (Lawrence) Luersman of Delphos; four grandchildren: Nicholas Buccellato, Lucas Buccellato, Gabrielle Krupp, and Alexander Krupp.

    John was preceded in death by a son, Mark Verhoff; a daughter, Veronica Verhoff; two brothers: Elmer and Cornelius Verhoff; three sisters Gertrude (Harold) Nienberg, Stella (Leonard) Knueven,  Rita (Alvin) Kleman; and a brother-in-law Urban Gerker. 

    He was a very intelligent and a talented musician and carpenter. He had a smile that you could not forget.  John had a tragic life in losing his two children Mark at 29 years old, and Veronica at 13 years old, far before their time. He burrowed through his broken heart daily by continuing to work hard every day of his life. He was generous, funny, and kind-hearted, and he loved his family very much. He will most certainly be missed dearly every day forward. He was a retired carpenter. He was a US Army Veteran of the Berlin Crisis and a member of the American Legion.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will begin 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Glandorf, with Fr. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Findlay.  Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.  

   Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society for the study

of Hodgkin's disease.
