LIMA - John Michael "Mike" Howe, 64, died at 4:15 p.m. May 15, 2013, at the home of his brother David.He was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Lima to John Andrew and Mary Lou Wert Howe. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Bluffton.
Mr. Howe graduated from Bluffton High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served aboard a ship off the coast of Vietnam. Following his military service, he graduated from The Ohio State University. He taught at the Lima State Hospital/Oakwood Forensic Center for 17 years. He was owner and operator of The Owlsburg Saloon, Ada, for 16 years. Music was the love of his life, and he used the Owlsburg as a venue to play his guitar and conduct jam sessions with his friends and family. No one was a stranger to him. He treated everyone as though they were family. His unique style of humor, smile and laughter will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Survivors also include three brothers, Jerry (Cynthia) Howe, of Bluffton, Garry (Sue Baker) Howe, of Lima, and David Alan (Kim Badertscher) Howe, of Bluffton; a brother-in-law, Tom (Anita) Bogart, of Bluffton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Andrea Bogart; maternal grandparents, Ward and Helen Wert; and paternal grandparents, Vern and Iva Howe.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. Pastor Rick Lamb will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo Eastside Cemetery, Cairo, with military rites by American Legion Post 516 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9648.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
