LEIPSIC - Melvin C. Niese, 67, of Leipsic, died at 4:42 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2014, at Bridge Hospice in Findlay. He was born March 5, 1947, in Lima to the late Vincent and Mary (Kleman) Niese. On October 12, 1968 he married Dorothy "Dort" Brown, who survives in Leipsic. 

   He is also survived by his two sons: Derrick Niese of Upper Sandusky, Darwin Niese of Leipsic; two brothers, Donald F. Niese of Leipsic, Paul (Eileen) Niese of Ottawa; three sisters: Dolores (Dick) Schroeder of Columbus Grove, Marie (Ralph) Pothast of Glandorf, Norma (Denny) Michelsen of Leipsic; and one grandson: Andrew Elek of Glandorf. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Marvel Niese. 

   Melvin retired in 2013 after 48 years at Ennis in Leipsic. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic, where he was an usher and a member of their Holy Name. He was a member of the Leipsic Eagles, Ottawa Knights of Columbus, and a social member of the Leipsic VFW. 

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Leipsic with the Very Reverend George Wenzinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a rosary service Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Putnam County Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) or donor's choice.
