DELPHOS - Orville H. Burgei, 88, died at 8:40 p.m. June 21, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Putnam County to Jacob and Veronica Ricker Burgei, who preceded him in death. He married Ethel B. Miller, who survives in Delphos.
Mr. Burgei enjoyed gardening, ice cream, fishing on Lake Erie, and music, especially playing the guitar. He also had a love for dogs. He especially enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed attending all their sporting events. His passion was his lifelong companion, his wife, Ethel. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 471, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3035. He was a Navy veteran (fireman 1st class).
Survivors also include three sons, Kenneth (Connie) Burgei, of Wauseon, Donald (Judy) Burgei, of Columbus, and Larry (Donna) Burgei, of Delphos; three daughters, Mary Jane (John) Morman, of Glandorf, Judy (Kevin) Clark, of Delphos, and Anne (Dan) Wurst, of Ottoville; a daughter-in-law, Judy Burgei; four sisters, Alma Minning and Ruth Pohlman, both of Delphos, Irene Miller, of Ottoville, and Norma Vonderembse, of Delphos; two sisters-in-law, Avonelle Burgei and Norma Burgei; a brother-in-law, Kenny Rode; and 24 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Burgei; two sisters, Gertrude Rode and Rosemary Pohlman; and two brothers, John and Thomas Burgei.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The Rev. Chris Bohnsack officiated. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery with military rites by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Arrangements were handled by Harter and Schier Funeral Home, Delphos.
