COLUMBUS GROVE - Robert "Bob" V. Osterhage, 81, died at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 3, 2013, at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. He was born Aug. 2, 1932, in Kalida to Louis and Mollie Meyer Osterhage, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 21, 1954, he married Joan I. Kleman, who survives in Ottawa. Mr. Osterhage was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Kalida Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Army National Guard, and a 60-year member and past commander of American Legion Post 516, Columbus Grove. he had worked for Superior Coach in Lima and retired after 47 years. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sports and dancing activities. He was a fan of all Columbus Grove sports, Ohio State football, and the Cincinnati Reds. He was dedicated to his wife for the last 11 years and never missed a day visiting her at the Meadows. Everyone learned a lot from him after his wife could no longer communicate and he had to do all of the talking.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Darlene) Osterhage, of Ottawa, and Thomas (Kathy) Osterhage, of Columbus Grove; two daughters, Debra (Keith) Bell, of Columbus Grove, and Lisa (Jeff) Osting, of Glandorf; seven grandchildren, Lisa Beth (Joe) Brautigam, Adam (Caitlin Darbyshire) Osterhage, Haley (Matt) McVicker, Alexander Bell, Casey Osterhage, Alexis Osting, and Cole Osting; a great-grandchild, Charlotte Brautigam, and one on the way; six sisters, Mildred Remlinger, of Kalida, Cecelia Gerdeman, of Kalida, Joan (Jerry) Kulhman, of Ottawa, Marie (Joe) Langhals, of Kalida, Ruth Ann (David) Manley, of Hinkley, and Rita (Roy) Morman, of Glandorf; four sisters-in-law, Jane Kleman, of Kalida, Pauline Osterhage, of Columbus Grove, Rosella Osterhage, of Kalida, and Dorothy Osterhage, of Glandorf; and a brother-in-law, Alan (Joan) Kleman, of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Wilfred, Alfred, Eugene, Paul and the Rev. Louis Osterhage; two sisters, Rose Arlene (Joe) Kistler and Julianna (Dave) Hamilton; and four brothers-in-law, William (Pat) Kleman, Earl Kleman, Wilbur Remlinger and Donald Gerdeman.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus Grove. The Rev. Tom Extejt will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Columbus Grove with military rites by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Color Guard. A special Scripture service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
