DAYTON - Resurrection liturgy for Precious Blood Sister Catherine Brickner (formerly known as Sister M. Lucina), was held at Salem Heights Chapel, 4960 Salem Ave., Dayton, on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, Sister died at Emma Hall in the Maria Joseph Living Care Center in Dayton. Catherine had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 63 years.

One of ten children born to John J. and Philomena (Warnecke) Brickner, Catherine Josephine was born in Ottoville in 1932. At the age of 17, she formally entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood on Aug. 28, 1949.
For 23 years Catherine taught grades 1-12 in Ohio, Indiana, Missouri and Colorado. In 1976 Sister began a new ministry as activity director for the elderly in California and Ohio. In 2001 Catherine retired at Salem Heights Convent in Dayton. Due to failing health she moved in 2004 to Emma Hall.
Sister Catherine is survived by her sisters, Lauretta Schaffer; Rose (Otto J.) Wenzlick and Carolyn (Gerald P.) Schimmoeller. She is also survived by her brothers, Walter J. (Rose Ann) Brickner; Ralph W. (Sharon) Brickner; Steven V. (Sandy) Brickner; and John N. (Joan) Brickner. Preceding her in death were her brother, Clifford A. (Mary) Brickner and her sister, Doris Ann (Arnold) Ricker.
