Resurrection liturgy for Precious Blood Sister Rita Herman, CPPS was held at Salem Heights Chapel, 4960 Salem Ave., Dayton, OH on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Sister died at Maria Joseph Center in Dayton, OH on January 7. Rita had been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 63 years.
The first of eight children born to Edwin and Theresa (Ruen) Herman, Rita Pauline was born in Lima, Ohio on March 15, 1933. At the age of 17 she formally entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood on Aug. 30, 1950. She was known in religious life for a while as Sister M. Ralph.

Sister Rita stated that over the years her life has been a 'Cup of Life Poured Out in Love' for the Lord and her Precious Blood Community. For 56 years Sister Rita enjoyed teaching students in grades 4 through 8 in Sedalia, Mo.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; in Flint, Mich.; and in Celina, North College Hill, Cleveland and Dayton, Ohio. Retiring in 2009 Sister moved to the Salem Heights motherhouse in Dayton, OH. In 2013 Sister Rita joined her community of Sisters in the Maria Joseph Center nursing home in Dayton. This unassuming, generous woman was always caring for others to the end of her life.

Sister Rita is survived by her sisters Edna (Bill) Greeley and Frances Rhine, both of Lima, and her brothers, Leo (Helen) Herman and Donald (Kathryn) Herman of Cloverdale, Ohio; her brothers Ralph (Kay) and John (Jean) Herman of Ottoville, Ohio; as well as her brother Carl (Doris) Herman of Ft. Jennings, Ohio.

Interment will take place in the Salem Heights Cemetery.
