With less than a week until the girls sectional tournament draw, girls basketball teams around northwest Ohio look to strengthen their resumes for the draws to be held on Sunday at each respective site.In Division II at Hicksville, Wauseon and Bryan are the only two teams currently holding winning records.
Wauseon has the inside track to the top seed with a record of 11-6 and a 65-36 victory over the Golden Bears earlier this season. Bryan stands at 9-7 entering this week with Van Wert standing at 7-9. Napoleon (3-13) and Defiance (1-16) round out the field.
Division II action at Spencerville is an all-Western Buckeye League sectional with Lima Bath (12-4) and Celina (15-2) holding the top two records. Elida (7-10), Lima Shawnee (8-10) and Wapakoneta (8-9) all could claim the third seed with wins this week. Elida has defeated Lima Shawnee earlier this year and Wapakoneta got past Elida in league action. The Indians and Redskins have not played yet. St. Marys rounds out the field with a record of 3-13.
Kenton (10-7) takes part in the Division II sectional at Fostoria along with Clyde (18-0), Eastwood (5-9), Tiffin Columbian (6-11) and Willard (10-7).
Division III action at Defiance will feature NWOAL leading Archbold (16-1) as the top seed with either Delta (13-4) or Tinora (11-5) expected to take the second seed. Fairview (1-16), Liberty Center (1-14) and Paulding (4-11) complete the field.
In Division III at Lima Bath, four of the six teams currently hold winning records.
Coldwater (11-6) and Ottawa Glandorf (10-6) look to be the top two seeds with Allen East (9-7), Bluffton (9-7) and Lima Central Catholic (8-9) battling for the third seed. The Thunderbirds own a 47-44 victory over Coldwater on January 5 but also lost to Bluffton 38-36 on December 6. Wayne Trace (5-11) is the sixth team in the sectional.
Crestview (15-1) will be the top seed at the Division IV tournament in Van Wert with Lincolnview (13-4) looking to be the second seed. Delphos St. John's (6-9), Delphos Jefferson (6-12), Spencerville (2-14) and Parkway (3-14) are the other teams in the tournament.
The Midwest Athletic Conference Division IV sectional takes place at Coldwater as New Knoxville (14-3), Fort Recovery (11-4), Minster (11-6) and Marion Local (11-6) all battle for sectional seeding positions. New Bremen (8-10) and St. Henry (8-9) round out the list of schools.
Minster lost to New Knoxville (44-37) but defeated Marion Local (52-49). The Wildcats play in Fort Recovery on Thursday. The Flyers also lost to both the Indians (63-60) and Rangers (56-49). Fort Recovery plays New Knoxville on February 7. St. Henry also visits New Bremen in conference play on Thursday in a battle for the five seed.
Ada (11-7) participates in the Division IV sectional at Kenton along with Waynesfield Goshen (11-6), Ridgemont (0-12), Upper Scioto Valley (10-5) and Hardin Northern (1-15).
Division IV action at Bryan features Antwerp (3-13), Edgerton (14-3), Edon (4-12), Hicksville (1-16), Montpelier (5-12) and North Central (7-9).
Teams participating in the Division IV sectional at Wauseon are Fayette (13-4), Hilltop (9-6), Maumee Valley Country Day (0-10), Ottawa Hills (8-6), Pettisville (10-6) and Stryker (7-10).
Two other sectionals of interest take place at Bluffton and Ottawa Glandorf.
The Division IV tournament at Bluffton includes Columbus Grove (4-12), Continental (12-4), Fort Jennings (7-10), Kalida (9-6), Lima Perry (5-12) and Ottoville (16-0).
At Ottawa-Glandorf, squads in the tournament are Ayersville (9-7), Holgate (10-6), Leipsic (12-5), Miller City (2-15), Pandora Gilboa (11-6) and Patrick Henry (15-1).
