COLUMBUS GROVE - Columbus Grove never trailed in their Northwest Conference matchup with Ada Friday night.
However, the home standing Bulldogs could not shake their namesakes from Ada. That is until the start of the fourth quarter.
Columbus Grove scored the first eight points of the final quarter and never looked back in handing Ada a 57-34 NWC setback. Grove moves to 5-2 in the NWC, one game off the pace in the conference standings. Columbus Grove is 13-6 overall, while Ada is 1-6 in the NWC and 5-13 overall.
Columbus Grove took a 41-29 lead to the final quarter after being outscored by Ada in the third quarter 13-12. The home Bulldogs then scored the first eight points of the final quarter as they pulled away for the win.
Derek Rieman opened the fourth quarter scoring with two baskets inside before two Ada turnovers led to baskets by Jace Darbyshire and Blake Hoffman.
Ada halted the Grove run on a three point play by Austin Dumbugh, but the Bulldogs would score just two more points the rest of the game.
Will Vorhees led three Grove players in double digits with 15 points, while Darbyshire had 14 and Rieman finished with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Vorhees had four rebounds and three steals.
Spencer Archer led Ada with 11 points and Mason Acheson had eight points.
