Girls basketball season tips off

Quick starts helped county girls basketball teams to wins as the 2012-13 season tipped off Friday night.

Pandora-Gilboa jumped out to a quick lead at Leipsic as the Rockets posted a 42-22 Putnam County League win over the Vikings. The win was the first for new P-G coach Jessica Liedtke. P-G led 16-3 after one quarter and 29-11 at the half for the win. Ashley Williams led the Rockets with 17 points, all in the first half.
In the Van Wert Tip-Off Classic, Ottoville had a 25-7 halftime lead as the Big Green rolled to a 56-27 win. The win advances the Big Green to the title game Saturday night against Crestview at approximately 7:30 p.m. Abby Siefker nearly outscored the Cougars by herself as she finished with 26 points. Rachel Beining added 15 points.
Fort Jennings jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead against Lima Perry as the Musketeers posted a 61-33 win. Macy Schroeder had 20 points to lead the Musketeers.
At Kalida, the Ladycats outscored Coldwater in the fourth quarter to force overtime, then were outscored 19-13 in overtime as they fell to the Cavaliers 54-48. The Ladycats posted an 11-2 fourth quarter scoring margin to force overtime. Jackie Gardner led Kalida with 15 points.
Miller City struggled in the middle two quarters Friday night as the Wildcats dropped a 50-41 decision to Tinora. The Wildcats were outscored 27-14 in the middle two quarters in the setback. Melissa Michel had 15 points to lead Miller City and Brandi Gerschutz added 10 points.
