TIFFIN - Columbus Grove's boys cross country team and Ottawa-Glandorf's Matias Trampe-Kindt braved the chilly, windy conditions at Hedges Boyer Park in Tiffin to advance to the state cross country championships next Saturday.
The Grove boys finished second in the Division III race at Tiffin, while Trampe-Kindt finished in the top 16 runners to advance as an individual to state. The state meet will be held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron. The meet starts at 11 a.m. with the girls Division III race. The Grove boys will run at 1:30 p.m. and Trampe-Kindt at 2:15 p.m.
Columbus Grove's amazing post-season continued Saturday as they finished second in the Division III race. The Bulldogs finished second with 106 points as Liberty Center won the meet with 78 points. Lincolnview was a distant third with 146 points.
Junior Colton Grothaus led the Bulldogs with a fifth place finish in 16:29.78. Logan Douglas was the second Grove runner to cross the finish line in 23rd place at 17:05.12, while Jerry Kesselmayer was 28th in 17;17.33. Lee Altenburger finished 43rd and Bryce Sharrits was 46th in 17:35.98.
Trampe-Kindt didn't have his best run Saturday at Tiffin, but he did just enough to finish 15th in the boys Division II race and advance to state for the second time.
Trampe-Kindt, running as an individual, finished 15th in 16:41.29 to earn a trip to state. Individuals in the top 16 advance to the state meet.
Kalida's Katelyn Siebeneck failed to make state for a second time as she finished 19th in 20:26.56.
Pandora-Gilboa's girls team finished ninth in the Division III team standings. Anna Abelovska finished 23rd for the Rockets in the race.
