UPPER SANDUSKY — Columbus Grove’s boys cross country team opened the season Tuesday with a runner-up finish at the Upper Sandusky Ice Breaker Invitational.

The Bulldogs finished second with 84 points as Bay won the meet with 63 points. Mount Gilead was third with 116 points.

On the girls side, the Lady Bulldogs were sixth with 174 points. Notre Dame Academy won the meet with 43 points and Mount Gilead was second with 81 points.

Colton Grothaus led the Bulldogs with an eighth place finish in 18:13.13. Bryce Sharrits finished 12th in 18:36.30, while Boone Brubaker was 17th in 18:57.76 and Preston Brubaker was 20th in 19:00.77. Zach Shafer finished 27th in 19:17.36, Alex Tabler was 31st in 19:24.03 and Alex Giesige was 34th in 19:37.5 to round out the Bulldogs top seven runners.

Cody Wishmeyer finished 38th in 19:43.89, Phillip Vance was 57th in 20:29.12, Ryan Tabler was 68th in 21:00.41, Ryan Price was 92nd in 22:15.49 and Austin Sager was 131st in 25:29.93.

Mt. Gilead’s Austin Hallabrin was the boys individual winner finishing in 17:04.38.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Macy McCluer as she finished 21st in 22:39.88. Taylor Ellerbrock was 29th in 23:00.8, while Alexis Ricker was 35th in 23:32.84, Megan Langhals was 43rd in 23:54.39 and Leah Myerholtz was 64th in 25:06.64. Kirsten Malsam was 76th in 25:38.09 and Morgan Messer was 82nd in 25:56.63.

Kaitlyn Price was 97th in 26:35.73, Gracyn Stechschulte was 119th in 27:57.96 and Julia Bogart was 142nd in 29:53.41.
