COLUMBUS GROVE - Columbus Grove made the most out of a limited number hits Thursday afternoon in a 12-1 Northwest Conference win over Ada.

The Bulldogs (3-0, 9-1) had only six hits in the game, but took advantage of six walks and three hit batters to score 12 times.

Ada scored its lone run of the game in the top of the first as Gabe Sutton singled and moved to third base on a single by Connor English. Sutton scored on a steal of home plate after English was caught trying to steal second base.

The Bulldogs came right back in the bottom of the inning to score four times. Kody Griffith and Josh Verhoff had two run, two out singles for Grove in the inning. The Bulldogs scored all four runs after the first two batters of the game were retired.

Columbus Grove broke the game open in the second inning as they scored five times. Trey Roney was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, while Brady Shafer had an RBI single and Griffith plated a run with a groundout. One run scored on a wild pitch and one on an error.

The Bulldogs added a run in the third inning on an RBI single by Trent Vorst and they scored twice in the fourth as Verhoff had a two run double.

Elisha Jones (2-0) picked up the win for Grove as he allowed one run on three hits with six strikeouts. He retired the final seven batters he faced, the last four by strikeout.

Verhoff had two hits and four RBI for the Bulldogs and Griffith had three RBI.

English took the loss for Ada as he went just 1 1/3 innings allowing eight runs on three hits with four walks. Tyler Archer finished the game allowing four runs on three hits with two walks.

Sutton, Mason Acheson and English had the Bulldogs three hits.

Miller City 1

FINDLAY - Alex Harter pitched a four hitter for Liberty-Benton Thursday afternoon as the Eagles claimed a 4-1 non-league win over Miller City.

Harter allowed one run on four hits as he struck out 11 and walked two.

The Eagles took the lead with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. Miller City (6-3) scored its lone run in the third inning.

Jordan Harpst and Austin Ingleston both had two doubles for the Eagles and Andrew Kotey had a double and single.

Ross Lehman (2-1) took the loss for Miller City as he allowed four runs, two earned, on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Brent Riepenhoff had a double and single for Miller City.
