BOWLING GREEN — Lima Central Catholic used their athleticism and quickness Saturday night to defeat Ottawa-Glandorf in the Division III regional finals at the Stroh Center 55-40.
The win sends the T-Birds (23-4) to the Division III state tournament Friday afternoon against Roger Bacon at 2:30 p.m. at Value City Arena on The Ohio State University campus. The Titans, the defending Division III state champs, saw their season end at 17-11.
The T-Birds used their quickness and athletic ability to overcome all challenges O-G could throw at them.
LCC had a 23-17 halftime lead before outscoring O-G 20-15 in the third quarter. The Titans scored the first basket of the third quarter on a outback by Zach Kuhlman before the T-Birds went on an 8-0 run that gave them a 12 point lead at 31-19. Six of the points came at the free throw line as the T-Birds were able to push the ball upcourt after grabbing defensive rebounds catching O-G defenders out of position. The Titans were able to cut the LCC lead to eight points at 32-24 midway through the quarter, but could get no closer as LCC took a 43-32 lead to the final quarter.
O-G opened the fourth quarter with a 4-0 run before two free throws by Tre Cobbs and an Xavier Simpson basket had the T-Bird lead back to 11 points. O-G was never able to get their deficit back under double digits again.
Martyce Kimbrough paced a balanced attack with 19 points, while Simpson and Jake William both had eight points.
Noah Bramlage led the Titans with 19 points. Brad Recker added seven points. Zach Kuhlman had seven rebounds for O-G.
