PUTNAM COUNTY - Three girls basketball teams went into Saturday looking to put a claim on a district championship. At the end of the day two of three teams moved on, while the third team dropped a very close game.
Top ranked Ottoville moved onto the regionals in Division IV for the third time in the last four seasons with a 54-23 win over Crestview at Lima Senior High School. All three times the Big Green have advanced to the regionals with an unbeaten record.
At Liberty-Benton Saturday night, Leipsic hung tough with third ranked Patrick Henry to claim a 43-38 overtime win over the Patriots. It was the first ever district championship for the Viking girls basketball team.
The Vikings and Big Green will meet in the Division IV regional semi-finals at Elida Thursday night at 8 p.m.
In the Division III, district finals at Kalida, Ottawa-Glandorf's bid to advance came up short as they fell to state ranked Archbold 40-37. O-G led most of the game before the Blue Streaks rallied in the fourth quarter to post the win. A three-quarter court shot by O-G, that could have forced overtime, rimmed out.
