LEIPSIC - Leipsic jumped out to an early lead, then made enough plays down the stretch to defeat Pandora-Gilboa 35-28 in Blanchard Valley Conference action.
The win moves the Vikings to 3-0 in the BVC and 5-2 on the season. P-G is 1-2 in the BVC.
Leipsic got out to a quick lead Thursday evening scoring the first 10 points of the game as Haley Gerten and Shalynn Morman both canned a three-pointer. Despite the big early lead the Vikings were unable to put the Rockets away.
The Vikings biggest lead of the first half was 12 points at 19-7 after P-G had trimmed their lead to five points at 12-7. Leipsic was up 21-10 at the half and 23-10 after Kelly Nadler hit a basket to start the third quarter.
However, the Rockets were able to mount challenges as they pulled within 23-19 on a Megan Maag basket before Amber Gerdeman scored the final two baskets of the third quarter to lead 27-19.
Leipsic went up 30-19 on another Gerdeman basket and a free throw. The Vikings were up 32-22 before the Rockets mounted one final charge. P-G scored six points over the next three minutes to pull within 32-28 with 57 seconds left. P-G was unable to score another point after that as Leipsic hit 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win.
Gerdeman led the Vikings with 17 points, while Maag had 14 points for the Rockets.
P-G won the junior varsity game 35-34.
