Leipsic outlasts Miller City

MILLER CITY - Leipsic scored a run in the top of the ninth inning Monday to defeat Miller City 4-3 in the opening game of the ACME sectional tournament.The win sends the Vikings (4-4) to a winners bracket game Friday evening at 6 p.m. against the winner of the game between Kalida and Ottawa-Glandorf. The Wildcats and Titans play tonight at 6 p.m. at O-G. The winner of this game will host the Vikings.
Miller City drops into the losers bracket of this double elimination to face the O-G/Kalida loser. This game will be played Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Kalida or O-G.
Leipsic scored the winning run after neil Hasleman opened the ninth inning working a walk and taking second on a wild pitch. After two popups to the pitcher, Gavin Cupp lined the first pitch he saw up the left-center field gap for a run scoring double.
In the bottom of the inning, Miller City tried to tie the game as Jackson Lammers had a one-out single to left. He stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch with two outs. Leipsic pitcher Dillon Schey stranded Lammers at third base getting a called third strikeout to end the game.
Schey was the winning pitcher for the Vikings in relief. Logan Selhorst started the game and Haselman worked in relief.
Lammers suffered the loss for Miller City as he went 8 2/3 innings.
Patrick Henry 10
HAMLER - Patrick Henry jumped out to an early lead Monday evening in defeating Columbus Grove 10-1 in the opening round of the ACME sectional tournament.
The Bulldogs dropped into the losers bracket and will play the loser of the game between Fort Jennings and Holgate Wednesday at 6 p.m., at a site to be determined. Whoever the Bulldogs play will host the game.
Patrick Henry grabbed the early lead scoring twice in the top of the first inning. They went on to add three runs in the third inning and scored four times in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
Logan Zeigler picked up the win for the Patriots as he worked five innings. Zeigler also had two doubles in the game for Patrick Henry.
Josh Verhoff took the loss for the Bulldogs. Mason Smith had a double for the Bulldogs in the loss.
