Leipsic pulls off big BVC win

ARLINGTON - Leipsic turned in a strong defensive effort in the middle two quarters Thursday night to hand Atlington a 41-26 Blanchard Valley Conference setback.The Vikings improved to 2-1 in the conference and 4-2 overall. The loss was the first for the Red Devils this season as they dropped to 2-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall. The loss snapped a 30 game winning streak for Arlington and a 28 game home winning streak that dates back to Dec. 2, 2009 when they fell to Pandora-Gilboa.
Leipsic had a 24-18 halftime lead overcoming a 17-14 deficit in the second quarter. The Vikings put the game away in the third quarter with an 11-0 scoring run.
Amber Gerdeman led the Vikings with 14 points and Shalynn Morman had 12 points, all on three-pointers. Kelly Nadler added eight points and Haley Gerten had seven points and 12 rebounds.
PANDORA - Pandora-Gilboa held Vanlue to five points in the first half as the Rockets rolled to a 67-24 Blanchard Valley Conference win.
The Rockets (2-1, 4-2) jumped out to a 26-4 first quarter lead and expanded it with a 17-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
Megan Maag led the Rockets with 20 points and Vanessa McCullough added 10 points. Both players had five rebounds.
Miller City 30
OTTOVILLE - Ottoville held Miller City to five points in the middle two quarters as the Big Green recorded a 78-30 Putnam County League win.
The Big Green (1-0, 5-0) had a 21-10 lead after the opening quarter before going on a 44-5 run in the middle two quarters.
Abby Siefker paced the Big Green with 21 points, while Rachel Beining had 14 points and Tonya Kaufman added 13 points.
Melissa Michel led Miller City with 10 points.
HOLGATE - Continental outscored Holgate in the third quarter on their way to a 50-38 non-league win.
The Pirates were down 17-16 at the break before going on a 15-7 run in the third quarter for a 31-24 lead. Continental finished the game with a 19-14 scoring run.
Leva Weller led the Pirates with 16 points and nine rebounds. Paige Ordway added 15 points.
OTTAWA - Celina scored the final four points of the game as the Bulldogs downed Ottawa-Glandorf 50-46 in Western Buckeye League action.
With the game tied 46-46 after O-G's Molly Closson hit a jumper, the Bulldogs used free throws by Katie Stahl and Leah Bihn to win the game.
Stephanie Hempfling led the Titans with nine points. Niki Ellerbrock and Closson both had seven points. Anna Bellman grabbed eight rebounds for the Titans while Closson had four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Hillary Heiby led the Bulldogs with 15 points and five rebounds and Bihn had 14 points.
Col. Grove 33
LIMA - Lima Central Catholic defeated Columbus Grove 57-33 in Northwest Conference action Thursday night.
Sydney Mohler led the T-Birds with 16 points and Meredith Shepherd added 15 points.
Sammi Stechschulte had 12 points for the Bulldogs.
