MILLER CITY — The drought is over for the Miller City boys basketball team.
Not having won a Putnam County League boys basketball title since the 1994 season, the Wildcats had an opportunity to end that streak Saturday night as they hosted Columbus Grove.
Miller City jumped out to an early lead on the Bulldogs as they went on to post a 57-41 win. The win gives the Wildcats an outright PCL championship at 6-1, while the Bulldogs and Ottoville are second at 5-2. Ottoville had a chance to share the title, but fell to Leipsic Saturday night 55-45.
Miller City jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead on the Bulldogs and were up 27-19 at halftime. A 17-11 run in the third quarter by the Wildcats helped them extended their lead.
Adam Niese led the Wildcats with 21 points and Adam Drummelsmith had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson Lammers added 10 points.
Jace Darbyshire led the Bulldogs with 16 points and Riley Brubaker added 10 points.
Columbus Grove won the junior varsity game.
Leipsic 55
Ottoville 45
OTTOVILLE — Leipsic overcame a sluggish third quarter Saturday night to rally for a 55-45 Putnam County League over Ottoville at the L.W. Heckman Gymnasium.
The win by Leipsic denied the Big Green a chance of sharing the PCL title.
The Vikings had a 28-21 halftime lead but were outscored 12-4 in the third quarter as the Big Green had a 33-32 lead. Leipsic bounced back in the fourth quarter to outscore the Big Green 23-12 for the win.
Matt Schroeder led the Vikings fourth quarter charge with 10 points as he finished with 12 for the game. Zach Kuhlman led Leipsic with 20 points.
Luke Schimmoeller led the Big Green with 16 points and Brandt Landin added 12 points.
Leipsic won the junior varsity game 40-33.
Fort Jennings 50
Pandora-Gilboa 44
FORT JENNINGS — Fort Jennings outscored Pandora-Gilboa in the fourth quarter Saturday night for a 50-44 Putnam County League win.
The Rockets had a 35-30 lead going to the fourth quarter before the Musketeers charged back to outscore them 20-9 for the win. Alex Berelsman had seven points in the fourth quarter for the Musketeers and Connor Wallenhorst had five points.
Wallenhorst led the Musketeers with 12 points and Mark Metzger added 11 points. Nick Von Sossan chipped in with 10 points. Wallenhorst pulled down seven rebounds for Fort Jennings.
Seth Schmenk and Jared Tousley both had 13 points for the Rockets. Tousley also had 12 rebounds in the game.
Continental 50
Tinora 40
CONTINENTAL — Continental overcame a slow start Saturday night to defeat Tinora 50-40 in non-league action.
The Rams were up 10-6 after one quarter before the Pirates took over outscoring Tinora 13-8 in the second quarter for a 19-18 halftime lead. A 16-8 run by the Continental in the third quarter helped them extend their lead.
Gabe Williams led the Pirates (8-12) with 11 points and Tyler Rue had 10 points, five steals and three assists. Wade Stauffer added nine points.
Tinora won the junior varsity game 42-12.
Kalida 76
Van Buren 59
VAN BUREN — Kalida drained 11 three-pointers Saturday night as the Wildcats claimed a 76-59 win over Van Buren in non-league action.
The Wildcats were 11-of-26 from behind the arc as Luke Langhals led the way with four and Devin Kortokrax finished with three.
Kalida had a 22-8 lead after the opening quarter and were up 41-24 at halftime.
Kortokrax led the Wildcats with 24 points as he also went 9-of-9 at the free throw line. Luke Langhals finished with 18 points and Joe Gerdeman added 11 points.
Kalida won the junior varsity game.
Perrysburg 56
Ottawa-Glandorf 53
PERRYSBURG — Ottawa-Glandorf battled a good Perrysburg team tough Saturday night before dropping a 56-53 non-league decision.
The game was tied 43-43 after three quarters before the Yellow Jackets outscored O-G 13-10 in the final quarter.
