Miller City defeats Cory-Rawson in baseball

MILLER CITY — Miller City snapped a two game losing streak Thursday afternoon by blasting Cory-Rawson 10-0 in a five inning, non-league game.
The Wildcats scored every time they grabbed a bat as they opened with two runs in the first, scored a run in the second inning and four in the third inning. Miller City added three run in the fourth inning for a 10-0 lead.
Jackson Lammers picked up the win for Miller City as he didn't allow a run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Adam Drummelsmith had a single and double for the Wildcats. Lammers, Hunter Berner, Ross Lehman, Jeremy Balbaugh and Logan Dukes all had a double for Miller City (3-2).
KALIDA — Kalida halted a Pandora-Gilboa rally, then got the bats busy in a 13-3 Putnam County League win over the Rockets Thursday afternoon at Holy Name Ballpark.
The Wildcats recorded their first win of the season, while the Rockets dropped their first game of the season.
Kalida grabbed a quick 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as they sent nine batters to the plate. The Wildcats made the lead standup through three innings before P-G scored a run in the fourth inning. The Rockets made it a 4-3 game in the top of the fifth as they left the potential tying and go-ahead runs at second and third base.
Not having scored since the opening inning, Kalida found its offense again in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Wildcats sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth as they scored four times. Brent Hovest had a two run double in the inning, while Brady Laudick had a sacrifice fly and Trent Gerding an RBI single.
The Wildcats ended the game in the bottom of the sixth as they scored five times. Randy Zeller ended the game with a bases loaded single to left field, just out of the reach a diving Rocket fielder. Gerding, Noah Lambert and Austin Swift all had singles in the inning.
Swift picked up the win for Kalida as he went 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Zeller, who recorded a save. Swift allowed two runs on two hits with nine strikeouts. Zeller allowed one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Hovest had the big bat for Kalida with two doubles, a triple, a single and he was hit by a pitch. Colton Farrell had three singles for Kalida.
Seth Schmenk took the loss for P-G. Dustin Rieman worked in relief.
